An important recognition for World Friends: Ruaraka Uhai Neema Hospital has reached level 4 in the Quality of Health and Care, achieving the highest score among 500 public and private healthcare facilities in Kenya according to the SafeCare System.
SafeCare is an initiative set up by the PharmAccess Foundation (Holland) in order to support both public and private health structures in carrying out a program structured in multiple phases with the aim of offering increasingly safe and quality assistance to their patients. SafeCare introduces different level standards, which facilitate partner structures to measure and improve the quality, safety and efficiency of their services. Through the technical assistance provided, healthcare facilities gradually move towards achieving higher quality standards, along a trajectory that may ultimately result in international accreditation.
SafeCare standards are accredited by the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua), a global leader in quality improvement processes.
Ruaraka Uhai Neema Hospital joined the initiative in 2014 and since then all the staff, under the guidance of the hospital Management Team, have worked to raise the quality of services offered to our patients over time. Following the first evaluation by SafeCare observers the hospital had obtained the first certificate, attesting Level 1.
5 main areas were evaluated with hundreds of parameters:
1. Leadership and accountability processes;
2. Staff preparation, competence and reliability;
3. Work environment safety for staff and patients;
4. Patient Diagnosis and Care;
5. Improvement of Quality and Safety.
The margins for improvement were numerous and significant; the commitment of the entire structure has led, over 3 years, to the achievement of Level 4 (out of 5), thanks to an unrivaled score in Kenya among the over 500 public and private structures with which SafeCare collaborates (only the ‘Aga Khan University Hospital has level 5).
Dr. Millicent Olulo, Director of the SafeCare Kenya program, commented during the delivery of the Level 4 Certificate: “Among the 500 healthcare facilities that we have continuously evaluated over the years, Ruaraka Uhai Neema Hospital has obtained the highest score up to until now! This achievement can be attributed to the sense of Ownership among the staff members as well as the Team Work that exists at Ruaraka Uhai Neema Hospital.”
