Aquarius

13/06/2018

The NGOs of Link 2007, committed to the positive management of migratory flows, express strong concern and bewilderment at the decision of the Minister of the Interior Salvini to close the Italian ports to the ship Aquarius, on which 629 people are embarked, including 123 unaccompanied minors and 11 children, all rescued with operations coordinated by the Italian coast guard.
Respect for humanitarian law can in no case fail due to greater involvement and solidarity on the part of Europe in the management of a complex phenomenon such as that of migrants and refugees, which is nonetheless desirable.
We therefore appeal to all political subjects and to those with institutional responsibilities to express a strong position against the closure of our ports to humanitarian ships so as not to deny rescue and treatment to vulnerable people in need of help.
