LUCA MAESTRIPIERI DIRECTOR OF THE ITALIAN AGENCY FOR DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION

05/04/2019

After long waits and uncertainties, the Council of Ministers has finally appointed the new director of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation – AICS.
Luca Maestripieri will fill this role, which remained vacant for 12 months after the resignation of Laura Frigenti.
Luca Maestripieri, 58 years old, with a degree in law from the University of Pisa, is currently deputy director general for development cooperation (Dgcs) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, where, since 2012, he has been coordinator for legal and legislative aspects of the various offices and central director for general and administrative affairs of development cooperation. I closely followed the path that led to the definition of law 125/2014 on development cooperation and participated in the negotiations in New York in 2014 which defined the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development with its 17 objectives, which will represent the Agency the compass to follow.
Previously he held the positions of consul general in Paris (2008), first adviser to the Permanent Mission to the UN in New York (2004), head of the legal office of the General Directorate of Personnel at the Farnesina (2001), first secretary and commercial adviser to the Italian Embassy in Lisbon (1996) and in Ljubljana (1992).
An excellent wealth of experience, responsibility and knowledge. All the organizations of the Link2007 network wish him all the best and good luck in his new role, says the president Paola Crestani.
The Maestripieri director will have to fully experience the out-of-service placement, managing to create the maximum synergies between the Agency, the General Management of the Maeci and the Deposits and Loans Fund, ensuring the Aics the autonomy desired by Parliament, ensuring it the full proactive capacity and innovation and responsibility for management and implementation of activities,
He will not have an easy task but he will be able to find in the staff of the Agency and in the subjects of development cooperation, starting with civil society organizations, the skills, professionalism, experience and passion that will be able to support him. The Link 2007 NGOs are, as always, open to dialogue, study, innovation and collaboration to contribute to strengthening the Agency and to the quality and effectiveness of Italian development cooperation.
