Campaign 0.70. “The world is hungry for development”.

03/03/2023

Card. Matteo Zuppi, Archbishop of Bologna and President of the CEI, spoke at the seminar on the Campagna070 which took place last Saturday in Bologna, reiterating the importance of relaunching and maintaining the commitment to allocate 0.70% of the National Income Gross to international solidarity understood as an action for peace to be carried out together.

LINK 2007 is strongly convinced that international cooperation is the connective tissue of international relations and development policies, capable of involving both national institutions and territorial institutions and communities in effective and supportive partnerships for economic and social justice.

Italy has repeatedly signed up to the international and European commitment to allocate 0.70% of its national wealth to support development objectives, but the rhetoric of these declarations has not been followed by as many concrete acts . Italy ‘s resources for international development cooperation are absolutely insufficient to achieve the set objectives and unsuitable for dealing with the post-pandemic crisis and the problems relating to climate-environmental changes which risk distancing us from the achievement of sustainable development objectives. In order to face today’s problems with a sense of responsibility, resources must be adequate and available in the shortest possible time.

We are strongly convinced that international cooperation is the connective tissue of international relations and development policies, capable of involving both national institutions and territorial institutions and communities in effective and supportive partnerships for economic and social justice.

For these reasons, we have decided to promote the 070 Campaign with the aim of deploying the best skills of civil society to relaunch international cooperation for development and ask for the adoption of a law that allocates 0.70% of the income gross national aid for official development in a progressive way starting from the next budget law.

Time is running out: the world is hungry for development and justice. It is time to adopt precise political choices for the construction of a better, fairer, more just and sustainable world for all, especially for the poorest and most vulnerable populations. International development cooperation is an investment in the future of all of us, without exception.
